Saw some good news over on the Design Edge Canada web site this week. Two Toronto-based publications have made the five best designed newspapers in the world list in the 33rd annual Best of Newspaper Design Creative Competition from the Society for News Design (SND), which calls itself an international organization for news media professionals and visual communicators. Our local winners?
Indie darling The Grid a free weekly (formerly known as Eye Weekly). And one of the big guys: The National Post, whose reporters and designers work out of Toronto.

As mentioned, we heard this happy news from the Design Edge Canada website, which has a full story on the compeition. Head over there to read more. The Grid was praised for "many tiny informative graphic details throughout the pages." And "sparse but great inside photography on full spreads."
